Directed by Susan Metz Produced by Becky Jacobs
The first production of the Footlight Player’s 60th season will be the award-winning “Tuesdays with Morrie” by Jeffrey Hatcher and Mitch Albom.
“Tuesdays with Morrie” is the autobiographical story of Mitch Albom, an accomplished journalist driven solely by his career, and Morrie Schwartz, his former college professor. Sixteen years after graduation, Mitch happens to catch Morrie’s appearance on a television news program and learns that his old professor is battling ALS, or Lou Gehrig’s disease. Mitch is reunited with Morrie and what starts as a simple visit turns into a weekly pilgrimage and a last class on the meaning of life.
“Tuesdays with Morrie” was originally published as a non-fiction book in 1997 by Mitch Albom and spent 205 consecutive weeks on the New York Times Bestseller List. More than 11 million copies are in print worldwide. The book was later adapted into a television movie starring Jack Lemmon and Hank Azaria. The film won four Emmy awards, a Golden Globe award, and a Screen Actor’s Guild award. Ironically, it was Lemmon’s last credited role before he died.
The Footlight Player cast features Rod Hasseman as Morrie and Kirby Hasseman as Mitch, who are father and son in “real life”.
“Tuesdays with Morrie” is produced by special arrangement with Dramatists Play Service, Inc.
