Return Engagements is a
delightful comedy written by Bernard Slade... who also penned the well known
Same Time Next Year. It presents the dilemmas of four couples
who return to the same Stratford, Ontario hotel room years later to discover
how their lives have become intertwined as time has passed. Each act of this
two-act play is broken into three scenes. While all of the players never
come onstage together until the final minutes, the dialogue and action let
the audience know just how the characters have gotten to know each other. Angela Stewart begins the play as Daisy, an artistically ambitious actress, who finds herself in something of a bind with the hotel bellboy, Raymond, played by Jeff Wherley. Shane Pyle and Sheila Mayse carry the second scene with the sometimes funny, sometimes touching interaction of Joe Bristol, an ex-hockey prospect with a heart of gold, and Miranda Jablonski, an earthy but warm Polish immigrant who has a simple goal. The third scene pairs real-life husband and wife Bruce and Kathy Reid as Oliver and Fern Edwards, a scholarly couple whose stoic and objective view of life and marriage becomes somewhat complicated by the appearance of a nervous dentist named Henry Metcalf (Nathan Mayse) and the free-spirited Dawn Hammond (Shelly Lillibridge). Curtain time is 8:00 each evening. Reservations may be made by calling the theater at 622-2959 from 7-9 PM Monday through Thursday or 2-4 PM on performance days. |
