GOOD MORNING MISS DOVE

Directed by Susan Metz Foster

Produced by Roger Foster and Carol Remington

...FROM THE DIRECTOR

As we present to you the 188th production of the Coshocton Footlight Players and close the curtain on our offerings for this century, we invite you to leave 1999 behind for a couple of hours and join us in Liberty Hill, USA, in the post-World War II 1940's.

It was a time when more American homes had radios than bathtubs, when a Sunday evening with Jack Benny was a family ritual, when we learned to live in fear of communism and atomic bomb annihilation, and the minimum wage was 40 cents an hour.

It was also a time when schools were much safer places. Where a teacher had the freedom to teach and the students had the opportunity to learn without fear of violence.

We dedicate this play to all teachers, then and now, who nurtured our dreams, listened to our excuses, cheered our victories, and tried to fill our heads with both school lessons and life lessons. Our hats are off to you.

So please sit back and enjoy our brief glance backwards before embarking on the new millennium. Our continued thanks for your generous support.

When the time came to set this year's play schedule, several members of the Board of Officers advocated we consider Good Morning, Miss Dove for the 1999-2000 season. After reading the script, I wholeheartedly agreed the play was something good for our theater. Not only was it a wholesome and heartwarming story which would hopefully appeal to our patrons of all ages, it could serve as a touching tribute to those very important people in our lives we call "teacher". I eagerly signed on the dotted line to be the director and the rest, as they say, is history (pardon the pun!).

So, me heartfelt thanks to the many people who brought Good Morning, Miss Dove from talk to reality. To the cast and crew who came together, at the busiest time of the year, to make this rewarding experience possible, congratulations for a job well done. To the two "Miss Doves", Mickie Galajda and Jessie Rumsey, whose incredible talent, commitment, and intelligence brought this sweet story to life, my special thanks and respect. To the many audience members who gave us the opportunity to visit this wonderful playground and rewarded us nightly with your generous applause, we thank you most of all.
