The 2000-2001 season opened with this bloodthirsty dime novel of the style frequently referred to as "lurid trash" by our grandparents' parents. But the allure of the Old West... with the six-gun heroes, redskins biting the dust, lily-pure maidens and blackhearted gamblers, of the never-ending "game of Gold"... is still with us.

In 1876, a little-known writer, Edward L. Wheeler, started turning out dime novels about a Robin Hood of the Black Hills whom he named Deadwood Dick. Dick became an overnight success to the extent that Wheeler went on to write 64 Deadwood Dick novels.

Taking the most exciting situations, the most colorful characters and the most amusing dialogue from the novels, Tom Taggert has fashioned a Gay '90's melodrama that has all the elements that make these blood-and-thunder melodramas so hilarious. They're all there... long-lost daughters, stolen gold mines, kidnapped heroines and hairbreadth escapes. Theater-goers are invited to show their enthusiasm by cheering the good guys and booing the bad guys. Watch closely and you may even see a mustache twirled and a lady swoon.
